Nipple Piercings at Nudist Resorts - What's the trouble?
Nipple Piercings - A friend told me about some controversy that occurred at Rock Lodge this past summer that I believed was worth discussing. Everything began several years past when the teenager daughter of a couple visited Rock Lodge, and to a few members' dismay, she'd nipple jewelry. Rock Lodge then determined to apply a rule to prohibit this. Right now the rule states, as quoted in the website:
At present, genital and nipple jewelry are not allowed. Prior to arrival at Rock Lodge, please ensure that any genital jewelry is removed and that any nipple jewelry is either removed or covered.
They allow other jewelry as long as it's tasteful.
And this past summer, over 10 individuals with nipple jewelry visited Rock Lodge, bringing the rule to many members' attention. Many of them fought to have the rule changed, while others were completely for keeping it. Those that supported the rule argued that nipple piercings do not belong in a family-oriented nudist club; that it attracts attention to places naturists aren't attempting to attract attention to, i.e. the breasts; that nipple piercings are sexual and correlated with the swinger setting (idiotic).
Nipple Piercing and Jewelry
On the other hand, proponents of change asserted that naturism is about open approval of folks as they are and enabling them to express themselves. As far as it attracting unwanted attention and also sexual focus, well,
Breasts aren't sexual organs.
The issue lies with the ogler.
Tattoos (tattooed breasts are taken) and additionally pasties used to cover them up also arguably attract attention, if not more focus, into a female's breasts. Anything can bring this attention, but this goes back to #2 of not looking at someone inappropriately to begin with.
Nipple Piercings
Personally I do not think the rule makes any sense and should be altered. Because of this group we've began of Young Naturists & Nudists America, we welcome everyone regardless of race, colour, sexual orientation, tats, piercings and so on. What's more, Rock Lodge has mainly an older crowd - maybe some conservative folks that resent what the loony rebellious kids are doing these days, with their body jewelry and loud wild parties.
Yet nipple piercings are getting to be a lot more common these days among young people, and I 've a couple buddies who've them who might say, "Rock Lodge is fine, BUT what's with this stupid rule?" I think the club would do better to cut out a rule that would exclude or discourage younger folks from joining, those who'd keep the area alive. What does one think, readers? Would such piercings bother you as a naturist?
If she seen Rock Lodge would they dare ask her to take them out/cover them?

UPDATE: After some argument, Rock Lodge changed their policy (in 2011 or 2012) and nipple piercings are now permitted only at that club. (Genital piercings, however, are still prohibited. That is a common policy among naturist clubs and also should be altered!)
(*BUT- in spite of my semi-harsh view on this particular issue here, Rock Lodge is nevertheless a very beautiful area in the northern woods of NJ, and if you've never been you should go!
